The Founder
Hi Mama! I'm Tori Levine. Like most new moms, while I had the inherent knowledge to care for this being I created and the mama bear fierceness to protect him, I continually second guessed myself and struggled to become comfortable caring for my son in public (breastfeeding, calming him if he was upset, feeling like everyone was watching and thinking I was failing).
When I began attending local mommy groups I became connected to a network of new moms who were supportive and also shared that they didn’t think they knew what they were doing either! We were able to share things we tried that worked for our baby, and things that didn’t, so we could learn from each other. I knew every Monday at 1pm I would be able to take a little time for myself and connect with other moms. We would talk about what was going on in our lives including milestones and challenges.
As my son grew, I began to feel the physical demands associated with caring for a family. I found there was not much support and encouragement for new moms other than hard core coaches or bootcamp style fitness routines which I was not comfortable with. Even though I was on maternity leave and spent every waking minute with my son, I did not want to leave him with a sitter in order to head to the gym or to teach barre or pilates classes.
As I began working with clients and teaching barre and pilates I took my son with me and wore him in a baby carrier. This turned into teaching babywearing barre classes to other new moms to help them get back into shape safely and effectively after pregnancy while still bonding with their baby. As I learned more and more about the postpartum body, my classes evolved and grew, and Mommy Barre® was born!
Now it is my mission to ensure all moms (those who had no complications, moms who had a C-section, moms who have diastasis recti, and those with pelvic floor issues) have the opportunity to engage and socialize with other new moms while they are able to get a great workout keeping baby close. All moms have the inherent knowledge to care for their children, in the Mommy Barre Community, this is uncovered so moms gain the confidence, support, and knowledge necessary to take care of themselves so they can care for their family.
I love working 1:1 and with groups of new moms, teaching individuals that small, well executed, movements are beneficial, and educating women about the necessity of strengthening their transverse abdominals and pelvic floor after pregnancy and birth.
I live in Pennsylvania with my husband, two boys, and our two dogs. I am a recurring presenter at the Pinnacle Health New Moms Network and presented at the 2016 International Babywearing Conference and MommyCon DC 2016. Links to featured in articles can be found on the Press Page.
